Lunch in Fremont

You go to Paseo to eat pork. This little Cuban pork palace at 4225 Fremont Ave N puts together the finest sandwich this side of the ship canal--mayonnaise, cilantro, lettuce and a juicy, fat piece of grilled pork on a baguette. Order the rice and beans on the side; they're the best we've had barring those we ate at Dawn Mason's "Pay Off the Debt" party. Paseo beans are the palate-perfect side dish; fragrant and mild, they do not compete with your pork-eating pleasure. Paseo also cooks chicken, fish, prawns and scallops. Two eat well for $16 plus pop.

Open Tuesday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m.
